Database monitoring tool: Datadog Database Monitoring, set up in Saudi Arabia
A database monitoring tool should show which query made the database slow, who ran it and what the database did to answer it, without a DBA logging in to find out. Datadog Database Monitoring reads query metrics, query samples and explain plans from your databases, and sits next to the application and infrastructure data in Datadog. Interkey, an official Datadog partner, sells Datadog licences in Saudi Arabia, sets up Database Monitoring, and provides technical support after go-live.
In short
- What it shows: query metrics over time, samples of individual query executions, explain plans, database host health and recommendations.
- Which databases: Datadog documents Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, ClickHouse and Amazon DocumentDB, among others, self-hosted or managed in the cloud.
- How it is set up: you configure the database, install the Datadog Agent, and follow Datadog's guide for your database type and hosting.
- Who it is for: DBAs, developers and platform teams who need the query behind a slowdown.
- How it is billed: per database host, per month. List prices are on our Datadog pricing guide.
- What Interkey does: licences, Agent and database set-up, tagging, alerts, privacy review of query data and technical support.
What a database monitoring tool should show about a query
CPU graphs say the database is busy. They do not say which query is responsible. These are the views that do.
| Question | What Datadog provides | View |
|---|---|---|
| Which queries cost the most? | Historical performance of normalised queries: the slowest, and those consuming the most time, with trends by tag, anomaly alerts, and filters by team, user, cluster or host | Query metrics |
| What ran at that moment? | Individual executions compared with the query's average, which surfaces slow but infrequent queries and the user, application or client host responsible | Query samples |
| Why was it slow? | How the database planned to run the query, step by step, including costly sequential scans on large tables and how a plan changes over time | Explain plans |
| Is the host healthy? | Database hosts sorted and filtered by alerts and query volume, with configuration, common blocking queries and calling services on each host | Databases page |
| What should we fix? | Problems and optimisation opportunities with a summary and suggested next steps | Recommendations |
| What does the business metric say? | Metrics from your own tables, such as queue depths or counters, collected with custom queries and read beside query performance | Custom metrics |
Which databases and which hosting
Datadog's documentation lists Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, ClickHouse and Amazon DocumentDB, and covers both self-hosted databases and managed services such as Amazon RDS and Aurora, Azure, Google Cloud SQL and AlloyDB. Its list includes further engines, and support differs by engine and by hosting type, so Interkey checks your exact versions against Datadog's setup guides before it quotes.
Setup follows one pattern: prepare the database with the access the Agent needs, install the Datadog Agent, and apply the guide for that database type. Self-hosted and managed deployments have separate guides, and the database account the Agent uses should hold only the permissions the guide asks for.
Database monitoring beside application monitoring
Datadog Database Monitoring reports database-level figures, such as rows returned or updated, that application tracing does not capture. In Interkey's Datadog design, Datadog APM traces link to the queries behind them, so a slow request leads to the statement and its plan. If a team owns both the service and its database, this is usually the fastest route from symptom to cause.
For SQL Server estates managed by DBAs, Redgate Monitor is the other tool Interkey implements. It adds estate views of backups, jobs and licensing. Datadog Database Monitoring fits where the database is one part of a wider Datadog rollout. The two answer different needs, and we help you choose.
Query data is sensitive data
Query samples show which statements ran, and a statement can carry the values it was run with. Host views name every database server. Datadog is SaaS, and as of November 2026 its documented sites are in the US, Germany, Japan, Australia and the UK, none in the Middle East. Before rollout, agree with your security and data teams which databases are monitored, what query detail is collected, and who can read it. Our Datadog data residency guide sets out the options, and the guide to masking personal data in logs and traces covers the masking step.

How Datadog Database Monitoring is billed
Datadog bills Database Monitoring per database host, per month. List prices, and how the units add up across a whole estate with infrastructure, APM and logs, are on our Datadog pricing guide. Interkey quotes the licences together with set-up and technical support.
How Interkey sets up Database Monitoring
-
List the databases.
Engine, version, hosting and owner, starting with the databases the business notices first.
-
Quote the licences.
Database hosts in scope, alongside the infrastructure and APM you already run or plan.
-
Prepare and connect.
Database access for the Agent, Agent installation and the network path, following Datadog's guide for each engine.
-
Tag consistently.
Team, environment and service tags, so queries can be filtered by owner.
-
Review query privacy.
What query detail is collected and who may see it, agreed with your security team.
-
Build alerts and dashboards.
Alerts that name the database, the query and the first thing to check.
-
Operate or hand over.
Interkey operates the platform from Riyadh, or hands it over with documentation and stays on as technical support.
Questions buyers ask
Does it work with our databases?
Datadog documents Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, ClickHouse and Amazon DocumentDB, among others, self-hosted and managed. Send us engines and versions and we check them against Datadog's guides.
Do we need to change our applications?
No. Database Monitoring needs the database configured and the Datadog Agent installed. Linking to application traces is a separate step if you also use APM.
Can it monitor SQL Server?
Yes. Datadog lists SQL Server. If DBAs want backup, job and licensing views, Redgate Monitor is the other option we implement, and we help you choose.
Does query text leave our network?
Query samples go to your Datadog site, and as of November 2026 none is in the Middle East. We agree what query detail is collected with your security team before deployment.
Can Interkey supply the licences?
Yes. Interkey sells Datadog licences in Saudi Arabia and quotes them together with implementation and technical support.
