Smart parking system with SquintPRO: entry and exit records from number plates

A smart parking system should tell the operator which vehicles came in, when they left and whether anything unusual happened, without a person writing it down. SquintPRO, the video analytics platform Interkey builds, does this with cameras. It reads number plates at car park entries and exits on cameras positioned for plate reading, and logs each vehicle with its plate, time and image. On the CCTV already covering the car park it detects vehicles, alerts when one is where it should not be, tracks it across cameras and searches recorded footage.

In short

  • What it is: camera-based parking records and monitoring built on SquintPRO, Interkey's own video analytics platform.
  • What it does: reads number plates at entries and exits and logs each vehicle's entry and exit with plate, time and image; detects vehicles on existing cameras; alerts when a vehicle is in a restricted area; tracks a vehicle across cameras; searches footage by description or image.
  • Who it is for: operators of car parks at offices, campuses, hospitals, malls and logistics yards in Saudi Arabia.
  • Where it runs: on-premise, so footage stays on your site, or in the cloud with 3, 6 or 12 months' retention.
  • What it does not do: identify people; there is no face recognition.
  • How it is bought: by quote, priced per use case from the site, the number of cameras and the use cases in scope.

What a smart parking system has to answer

"Smart parking" covers very different things, from sensors over each bay to payment machines and guidance signs. Start from the question the operator needs answered. These are questions about vehicles moving through fixed points and areas, which plate reading at entries and exits and video analytics on existing cameras can answer:

  • Which vehicles entered and left today, and at what time?
  • How long did a given vehicle stay?
  • Did a vehicle enter a staff-only or pedestrian area?
  • Where did a vehicle go inside the site, and can we find it in footage when a complaint comes in?

Plate reading at entries and exits

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) turns a plate in a camera image into text. Angle, plate size in the image, shutter speed and night lighting decide most of the result, so SquintPRO reads plates on cameras positioned for plate reading, usually one lane per camera. An overview camera rarely gives a readable plate. Saudi plates show the registration in Arabic and Latin characters, so ask any supplier:

  • How does it read and record both scripts?
  • How does it flag a dirty or partly hidden plate instead of guessing?
  • What read rate is measured at our own entry, day and night? Measure it during the pilot; a published figure does not replace it.

What it does on the cameras you already have

Beyond the entries and exits, SquintPRO works on the CCTV that already covers the car park, on the views the camera survey qualifies:

  • Detects vehicles and people in each camera view.
  • Alerts when a vehicle is where vehicles should not be, such as a pedestrian walkway or a restricted zone, during the hours you set. Each alert carries video evidence.
  • Tracks a vehicle across cameras on a map of the site, so an investigator can see the route.
  • Searches footage by description or reference image, for example "a white pickup in the last three hours".

See vehicle detection on existing CCTV.

Scope: what this page does not claim

This page describes plate-based entry and exit records, vehicle detection, zone alerts, tracking and search. It does not describe sensors over individual bays, live free-space counts, payment or guidance signs. If you need any of them, say so in the first conversation so the scope is agreed in writing.

What a first step looks like

  1. Camera survey.

Each camera is sorted into usable as is, usable after adjustment, or needing new hardware.

  2. Pilot scope.

One car park, a defined set of cameras, one or two use cases, and written success criteria.

  3. Integration.

Alerts go into the system you already run.

  4. Measurement.

Plate reads, false alerts and missed detections are measured on your own cameras.

  5. Rollout and operation.

More lanes, cameras or sites are added once the pilot passes. Interkey carries out the work from Riyadh.

Deployment, data and cost

SquintPRO runs on-premise, so footage stays on your site, or in the cloud with 3, 6 or 12 months' retention. It is priced per use case from the site, the number of cameras and the use cases in scope; see what determines SquintPRO pricing. Plate records describe where and when a vehicle was seen, so decide before go-live the purpose, who can search them, how long they are kept and how drivers are informed. SquintPRO does not identify drivers.

Questions buyers ask

Does SquintPRO read number plates at a car park entry?

Yes, on cameras positioned for plate reading at entries and exits, and it logs each vehicle's entry and exit with plate, time and image. Measure the read rate at your own entry, day and night, during the pilot.

Do we need new cameras?

For plate reading, usually yes at the entry and exit lanes. For vehicle detection, zone alerts, tracking and search, SquintPRO works on the CCTV you already have, on the views the camera survey qualifies.

Can it show how long a vehicle stayed?

The entry and exit records each carry a time, so the length of a stay can be read from the two records of the same plate.

Does it include bay sensors, payment or guidance signs?

This page does not claim them. SquintPRO covers plate-based records, vehicle detection, alerts, tracking and search. If your project needs bay-level sensing, payment or guidance, tell us at the start so we can scope it honestly.

Does footage have to leave our site?

No. SquintPRO can run on-premise, so footage stays on the site. A cloud option with 3, 6 or 12 months' retention is also available.

Does SquintPRO identify drivers?

No. SquintPRO does not use face recognition.

Discuss your car park

Tell us about the car park, how many entries and exits it has and roughly how many cameras cover it. We will tell you where plate reading needs dedicated cameras, which needs your existing cameras can meet, and what a pilot could measure.
